What this extension does
YouTube Chapters & Timestamp Generator reads the public captions of the
YouTube video you are viewing and generates a list of chapters with timestamps you can
copy into your description. You never need an API key.
How chapter titles are generated
- AI titles (default): the video's public transcript (caption text +
timestamps) and public title are sent to our Lab Tools service on Cloudflare Workers AI,
which returns the titles. Only this already-public video data is sent — never your
account, identity, or private data. We do not store the transcript or the
generated chapters, and we do not sell or share them. Sent over HTTPS.
- On-device / Basic titles: produced entirely in your browser — nothing is sent
anywhere.
Data we do NOT collect
- No YouTube account data, watch history, identity, or authenticated session info.
- No Google account / profile email.
- We do not sell or share data with third parties.
Permissions
activeTab & scripting: read the public caption data of the
video in the active tab.storage: remember your local UI preferences.- Access to youtube.com (content script on watch pages): to show the on-page
panel and read the public caption track of the video you are watching. It does not read
other sites or your browsing.
Limited Use
Our use complies with the Chrome Web Store Limited Use requirements: data accessed is
used solely to provide the chapter-generation feature and for no other purpose.
