What this extension does

YouTube Chapters & Timestamp Generator reads the public captions/subtitles of the YouTube video you are currently viewing and generates a list of chapters with timestamps that you can copy into your video description. You never need an API key.

How chapter titles are generated

The extension offers more than one title engine, and what leaves your device depends on the one you use:

• AI titles (default): the video's public transcript (timestamps + caption text) and the public video title are sent to our own Lab Tools service running on Cloudflare Workers AI, which returns the chapter titles. Only this already-public video data is sent — never your account, identity, or any private information. We do not store the transcripts or the generated chapters, and we do not sell or share them. Transmission is over HTTPS.
• On-device / Basic titles: if you pick the on-device AI or the basic engine, titles are produced entirely in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.

Data we do NOT collect

• We do not collect, store, or transmit your YouTube account data, watch history, identity, or any authenticated session information.
• We do not read your Google account or profile email.
• We do not sell or share any data with third parties.
• We process only the public captions of the video you are viewing — and, for AI titles, send only that public transcript to our service, which does not retain it.

Permissions & their purpose

• activeTab & scripting: read the public caption data of the video in the active tab when you use the toolbar popup.
• storage: remember your local UI preferences on your device.
• Access to youtube.com (content script on watch pages): to show the on-page “Chapters” button and panel, and to read the public caption track of the video you are watching. It does not read other sites or your browsing on them.

The only network requests are: reading the public caption data of the YouTube video you are viewing (directly from YouTube), and — when the default AI title engine is used — sending that public transcript to our Lab Tools / Cloudflare Workers AI service to generate the titles (see “How chapter titles are generated” above). We do not track your browsing.

Optional email opt-in

An email subscription form is off by default. If it is ever shown and you choose to subscribe, we collect only the email address you explicitly provide, with your consent, to send product updates. You can unsubscribe at any time. We never obtain your email without your direct action.

Limited Use

Our use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store Limited Use requirements: data accessed is used solely to provide the chapter-generation feature you requested and for no other purpose.
